Capturing the Walls of the City
Mr. Roberts’ exploration of mural photography began as a creative departure from his work in corporate portraiture. While walking through Roosevelt Row in downtown Phoenix, he encountered a striking mural—a man playing the cello, with a woman seated beside him holding a glass of wine, listening. Drawn to the mural’s vivid color, layered composition, and expressive detail, he captured it on his Hasselblad.
That encounter led him deeper into the streets and alleyways, where the city’s walls became a living canvas of color, culture, and creativity. What began as a moment of curiosity evolved into a focused body of work.
Today, his collection presents a curated study of mural art across the Phoenix metro area, highlighting the vision and craftsmanship of the artists who shape the city’s visual landscape.

Meet Kim Roberts
Mr. Kim Roberts is the founder and Chief Photographer of Act 4 Photography Studio. His passion for photography began at a young age when a mentor placed a camera in his hands and encouraged him to explore. What began as simple curiosity quickly evolved into a professional path, leading to early work throughout Pittsburgh and a major commission with the Bell Telephone Company.

After relocating to Arizona, a key connection led to a commission with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., helping establish his presence and expand his reach across the Valley.

Mr. Roberts has since become a trusted photographer for organizations including The Phoenix Chapter of The Links, Incorporated; Gamma Mu Educational Services, Inc.; and the Phoenix Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated.

Artist Statement
After nearly 40 years as a corporate photographer, I set out to rediscover my creative voice. A chance walk through Roosevelt Row led me to a vibrant world of murals that transformed my perspective and inspired an entirely new body of work.
This collection reflects the beauty and character of Phoenix’s mural landscape, with the hope of bringing greater awareness to the incredible art that surrounds us every day.
